It's a good time to be an Airbnb host in California.

According to a news release from Airbnb, new hosts living in California earned more than $270 million in 2021.

Airbnb hosts have earned a total of $150 billion since  the company's founding, with approximately $60 billion of that made by U.S. hosts, the company said. Atypical host in the U.S. can earn more than $13,800, according to the release.

Other states that made the top-10 list included Florida, Texas, New York,  Georgia, North Carolina, Arizona, Colorado, Pennsylvania and Tennessee.

New Airbnb hosts in the U.S. ended the year with earning more than $1.8 billion, which is 34% higher as compared to 2019, the news release said.

The busiest times of the year for Airbnb were Labor Day weekend, Memorial Day weekend, Fourth of July and Thanksgiving, the company said.

"While these high-demand travel times have resulted in significant income for our host community – and can offer a good starting point for many prospective hosts – there is increasingly an opportunity for many to share their home anytime and anywhere," the news release said. "The pandemic and the rise of remote and hybrid work have untethered many from offices, and for the first time, millions of people can now live anywhere."

The visits are not always short ones, either, the company said.

"For every host looking to experience guests who want to stay longer, there is a digital nomad eager to live like a local," the news release said. "Stays for 28 nights accounted for 22% of gross nights booked in Q4 2021."
