Graduates earn 415 degrees, certificates from South Carolina State University


About 21 percent of the 415 degrees and certificates handed out by South Carolina State University in 2017-18 were to students in education programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Orangeburg conferred 38 bachelor's degrees and 27 master's degrees in education programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in general biology/biological sciences. Data shows the school gave out 42 bachelor's degrees in general biology/biological sciences, followed by 28 bachelor's degrees in general family and consumer sciences/human sciences and 25 bachelor's degrees in physical education teaching and coaching.

The university enrolled 2,942 students for 2017-18, including 2,524 in undergraduate programs and 418 in graduate programs.
