The Association of Defense Communities held its 2019 Defense Communities National Summit at Washington last month, and recognized the Greater Columbia Region among five communities named 2019’s Great American Defense Communities.
Columbia Chamber’s president and CEO, Carl Blackstone, went to Washington together with David Lockwood, chairman of the board of directors; Dan Beatty, chairman of the chamber’s military outreach group; and Susan Vaughan McPherson, director of public policy and military affairs, to receive the recognition.
“Receiving the designation as a Great American Defense Community is a fitting tribute to the many business and community partners who work diligently to embrace the military men and women serving in the greater Columbia area,” said Blackstone.
This year’s three-day summit held at the Hyatt Regency Washington focused on issues that are vital to strengthening the foundation of readiness for the military and communities.
