Credit Union West issued the following announcement on Jan. 23.

Arizona has about 55,000 federal employees, according to state records, so the local impact of the partial Government Shutdown is significant. Federal employees and their families, federal contractors, and small businesses are all affected by the shutdown.

To support impacted families, Credit Union West has stepped up to ease the unplanned financial burden of those individuals who have been furloughed from government jobs by offering two financial options, including a zero annual percentage rate, two-year loan.

“Our members who work for the government are dealing with financial and emotional challenges,” said Karen Roch, CEO and President of Credit Union West. “We are committed to supporting their financial health by providing the means so they can continue to feed their families, preserve credit scores and maintain peace of mind.”

Existing Credit Union West members who are federal government employees may qualify for two unique offers: a two-year loan of up to $6,000 at 0% APR with the first payment delayed for 90 days, or a “Skip a Payment” option which waives one monthly payment on an existing loan at no cost. Members can apply online at Credit Union West's website at https://cuwest.org/assistance.

To support the community, federal employees who have been impacted by the shutdown can apply to become Credit Union West members to apply for the zero-percent, two-year loan, with no payment for the first 90 days at the web address above or at the nearest Credit Union West location. Membership is open to all who live, work or worship in Maricopa or Yavapai County in Arizona.

“We are here for our members in prosperous and lean times,” Roch said. “Helping one member maintain financial security elevates our entire community.”

These special offers are available through the duration of the federal government shutdown. Learn more about 0% APR, two-year loans and the “Skip a Payment” programs for government employees at Credit Union West.
