The South Carolina Chamber recognized the winners of its yearly Excellence in Workplace Diversity Awards during the 39th Annual Summit held at Kiawah Island.
The Excellence in Workplace Diversity Awards honor companies that have made a substantial contribution in extending an effort to raise diversity awareness in South Carolina. Company honorees are selected based on their diversity initiatives, effectiveness and applicability/replicability. The Chamber recognized winners and finalists from two categories -- the Small/Medium Employer Category, comprised of businesses with fewer than 1,000 employees, and the Large Employer Category, or businesses that employ 1,000 or more people.
The Starbucks Coffee Co.-Sandy Run Roasting Plant won in the Small/Medium Employer Category over South Carolina Federal Credit Union and Aunt Laurie’s.
The winner for the Large Employer Category was Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, topping Clemson University and SCANA Corp.
“South Carolina businesses increasingly realize that diversity and inclusion are excellent for the bottom line,” Ted Pitts, president and CEO of the SC Chamber of Commerce, said. "When we bring together different viewpoints and backgrounds, we cultivate an environment ripe for innovation and success. Not only is it the right thing to do; it’s good for business."
