After the announcement of the planned construction of a six-story hotel Cambria Hotel to be located at 179 N. Church St., Spartanburg’s Design Review Board has asked the developer for a revision before preliminary approval shall be granted.

Reason for the requested revision is the developer’s intent to use an Exterior Insulation and Finish System for the hotel’s upper floor exteriors that does not conform to the board’s code. The code emphasizes the configurations of the structure such as entrances, sidewalk and pedestrian orientation that make urban areas work well.

The board is tasked to regulate and approve specific architecture of the project and ensure the construction is of quality that would prevent adding short life cycled structure in Spartanburg’s downtown.

The proposed Cambria Hotel will have 119 rooms, a ground-floor restaurant and bar with an outdoor seating, a two-level parking deck, and an outdoor pool area.
