The last day for those impacted by Hurricane Florence to apply for FEMA assistance is on Nov. 20.
Business owners, homeowners and renters in Chesterfield, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion and Marlboro counties may apply for disaster assistance for uninsured and underinsured disaster-caused damage and losses.
FEMA assistance may include money for serious disaster-related needs such as home repairs, personal property loss, and rental assistance. It is non-taxable and will not affect eligibility for Social Security, Medicaid or other federal benefits.
FEMA clarifies that it cannot duplicate insurance payments. However, underinsured applicants may be eligible to obtain assistance after their claims have been settled. Applicants are encouraged to submit to a copy of their insurance coverages, settlement and/or denial.
Applications and status of applications can be verified by visiting https://www.disasterassistance.gov/; by calling 800-621-3362; by using the FEMA smartphone app; or by visiting a Disaster Recovery Center.
