56 percent of applicants to Charleston Southern University were admitted for fall 2017


At Charleston Southern University, 82 percent of undergraduate students are traditional students - age 24 or younger - and 62 percent are female, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The four-year private not-for-profit institution in Charleston enrolled 3,492 students in fall 2017, including 3,061 in undergraduate and 431 in graduate programs, data shows. 8.8 percent of undergraduates transferred from another college or university.

77 percent of undergraduates are residents of South Carolina, and 22 percent are residents of other states.

The undergraduate student body is comprised mostly of students who identify as white (62 percent) and Black or African American (24 percent).

The school admitted 56 percent of the 4,125 students who applied for fall 2017. Of those who were admitted, 27 percent enrolled.
