South Carolina Disability Employment Coalition, an interagency that aims to address issues surrounding workers with disabilities, invites local businesses to an employer summit Oct. 9 during National Disability Employment Awareness Month.

People with disabilities make up 14 percent of the state‚Äôs population. Despite that, the unemployment rate for disabled people is at 70 percent. The event will address that issue while enabling support for disabled people coming from the local business sector.

Moreover, the event also aims to build awareness regarding issues surrounding hiring people with disabilities in order to promote a diverse workforce.

A $35 registration fee includes lunch and instruction in various strategies to effectively employ the disabled people. Early Bird registrants will enjoy a discounted fee of $25 if they register by July 31.

Sponsorship and vendor opportunities are also available. For more details, email Grace Bennet at gbennet@able-ac.org.
