Graduates earn 471 degrees, certificates from South Carolina State University


About 17.8 percent of the 471 degrees and certificates handed out by the South Carolina State University in 2016-17 were to students in Health Professions and Related Programs programs, making them the most popular programs that year, according to the latest disclosure from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency's National Center for Education Statistics shows the public institution in Orangeburg conferred 65 master's degrees and 19 bachelor's degrees in Health Professions and Related Programs programs.

But the single most popular program was for a bachelor's degree in Biology/Biological Sciences, General. Data shows the school gave out 39 bachelor's degrees in Biology/Biological Sciences, General, followed by 38 master's degrees in Audiology/Audiologist and Speech-Language Pathology/Pathologist and 33 bachelor's degrees in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration.

The university enrolled 2,905 students for 2016-17, including 2,529 in undergraduate programs and 376 in graduate programs.
