Lucy G. Beckham High School will become Charleston County School District’s first new high school in over 20 years when it opens for the 2020-21 school year.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday at 1560 Mathis Ferry Road in Mount Pleasant to celebrate the start of construction. Attending were CCSD board members and Mount Pleasant Mayor Will Haynie.

LBHS will be a three-story, 245,000-square-foot facility that can serve around 1,500 students. Anna Dassing will serve as the school's first principal.
