For safeguarding Little River 'round the clock every day of the year, Horry County police officers recently received a round of gratitude from the Little River Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center in the form of a donation.
The Chamber made a contribution to the department for “Shop with a Cop,” an initiative implemented yearly by the county police department, during which officers visit local retail outlets to host Saturday shopping activities for area youth.
According to WPDE, the department coordinated the effort with Horry County schools to select kids who would most benefit, with funding donated by community members.
Children joined the officers for breakfast and a bus ride to the stores. Each youngster was teamed up with a police staffer for a unique holiday shopping trip through store aisles, news sources reported.
Little River Chamber officials also acknowledged the Horry police for their regular community involvement, specifically two annual events — the World Famous Blue Crab Festival, and the Little River ShrimpFest — as well as its regularly executed civic duties.
Stating that the chamber channels festival profits back into the community, a spokesperson lauded the force.
“Police officers work relentlessly on behalf of our community to ensure our safety and this program is a wonderful opportunity to give back,” said Les Gore, chairman of the Little River Chamber Board of Directors.
