The City of Spartanburg has confirmed a case of the West Nile virus in a human.
The city is not able to confirm if the disease was contracted within the city's limits, but is still taking steps to ensure that there will not be other cases.
Gregory Pest Solutions sprayed Aqua-Reslin to kill all adult mosquitoes in a 3-mile radius around the city beginning on the evening of Oct. 18 and continued spraying nightly after 8 p.m.
Some good rules are to use insect repellent that has DEET, picaridin, lemon eucalyptus oil or IR 3535, to stay inside when mosquitoes are most active (such as the evening and early morning), to ensure that all doors and windows have screens that properly seal to prevent the entrance of mosquitoes, remove any standing water and to wear clothing that reduces the amount of exposed skin.
