The third annual Saltwater Highland Games will take place from March 23-25, 2018, at the North Myrtle Beach Park and Sports Complex.
“We’re excited to welcome the 3rd Annual Saltwater Highland Games to the City of North Myrtle Beach,” said North Myrtle Beach Superintendent of Recreation & Sports Tourism Matt Gibbons. “This event’s record of drawing visitors from 26 states and five countries in 2017 will greatly benefit North Myrtle Beach and, ultimately, everyone along the Grand Strand.”
Formerly known as the Myrtle Beach Highland Games, next year’s event will offer many new opportunities including a 5K Run, a Quidditch Tournament, and a Junior Athletic Competition, according to the Little River Chamber of Commerce and Visitor’s Center.
“We are excited to be working with the City of North Myrtle Beach and its staff in continuing to grow one of the Grand Strand’s premier events,” Todd Cartner, The Saltwater Highland Game’s executive director, said. “The park is beautiful and we feel our attendees will be blown away by the new additions we will be able to bring to our event.”
The Highland Games are well-known across the Carolinas, and “renowned for its outstanding entertainment, top Celtic musicians, professional athletes, and champion Bagpipe Bands from throughout the Southeast,” according to the Little River Chamber release, which notes food, drinks and souvenirs from Scotland and other Celtic nations will be available for purchase.
