Works from the Pastel Society of South Carolina will be shown at the North Charleston City Gallery Tuesday  through Sept. 28, with a special ceremony and reception at the gallery Sept. 7 from 5-7 p.m.

Pastels will be part of a judged show.

“The pastel medium provides an immediacy and brilliance to work that no other medium can match,” society President Trish Emery said. “There is no drying time, no mixing wet paints or messy tubes and brushes to clean.”

Emery and a group of fellow artists formed the society last year.

The North Charleston City Gallery is in the northwest corner of the Charleston Area Convention Center, 5001 Coliseum Drive in North Charleston. Both parking and admission are free.
