The Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce has chosen Perry Keith Waring as the recipient of this year's Joseph P. Riley Leadership Award.
The award is part of the chamber's Honors Night that celebrates work done to boost the community. The leadership award recognizes visionary people who also volunteer and have demonstrated many years of leadership.
First presented in 1992 and affectionately known as the “Big Joe” Leadership Award, the honor is named after the father of former Mayor Joe Riley.
Waring represents City Council District 7. His life motto is, “Always give honor to God, have an abiding love for family and have enormous respect for the community."
He has also served on the Charleston Metro Chamber Board of Directors and Executive Committee, spending part of that time as chairman, and is active in helping support the school district.
Waring will be honored Sept. 20 during the 2017 Honors Night event at Dock Street Theatre.
