For one month, Betsy Sikma has served as the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce's Director of Entrepreneurial Development for the Economic Futures Group, and in that short time, she's already turning heads.
She visited the city of Spartanburg podcast and discussed the city's growth and why she calls it home.
Many Spartanburg residents loved Sikma's recent blogpost, "Spartanburg is where I want to be." She expressed how she left the city in 2000, but once she came back to visit, she met with some of the amazing people in the community and fell in love with the place all over again.
"I’ve been a few places in my years on this earth. And I can say with confidence that, while Spartanburg has its challenges, there’s no better time to be in the Hub City," Sikma wrote. "Spartanburg is bursting with leaders who are innovative, creative, and, most importantly, committed to seeing this place grow into the inclusive, transformative community it was born to be. The energy is palpable."
She continued her promotion of the city on the Spartanburg podcast and also explained the direction in which the city is moving in terms of entrepreneurship and innovation.
"The Spartanburg initiative, or 'Spartanburg Movement,' as I like to call it, has really captured the fundamental pillars of community vitalization," Sikma said. "I am excited that entrepreneurialism is a part of that, because it shows just how forward-thinking this community is."
