Spartanburg City Council voted unanimously at a recent meeting to remove a question about criminal history from job applications.
Supporters of the move say removing this question from city job applications will make the process more fair and remove the stigma some applicants may face when seeking employment.
Even though the question about criminal history has been eliminated, job applicants will still undergo background checks. Qualified applicants with criminal records will have a better chance of gaining employment without being eliminated up front due to their response to a criminal history question on the application, according to advocates of the change.
At the same meeting, City Council voted to approve a third splash pad, which will be build as part of Downtown Memorial Airportpark. 3D Dirtworks was the lowest bidder for the project at $92,500.
