Times change fast in technology, so the South Carolina Department of Commerce recently overhauled its website to improve interactivity and allow businesses to access the state’s resources more efficiently.

Entrepreneurs can now study information about the region by industry type, size of companies, location and other categories. Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt emphasized the importance of keeping the site user-friendly as he conveyed news of the department’s first redesign in almost seven years.

"It's impossible to overstate the importance of first impressions when it comes to economic development," Hitt said. "For many prospective industries, our website is their first point of contact with the State of South Carolina. So, it's imperative that we put our best foot forward and make it easy for these companies to easily access all of the resources available to them."

The Department of Commerce included in its revamp a rebranding of an existing program titled SourceSC, which serves as a platform to pinpoint materials and services, connecting vendors with in-state businesses. Not only does it strengthen existing connections between businesses and suppliers, but it also strives for greater efficiency through lowering costs and delivery times.
