The Charleston County School District has appointed Cheryl Swinton as the new executive principal of Burke High and Simmons Pinckney Middle School.

Swinton served at Wando High School as an assistant principal and associate principal for the past 15 years.

She joined the school district in 1984 as a Family and Consumer Science teacher at Burke High School, having previously served in the same position at McCracken Jr. High and Lexington High in South Carolina from 1979-83.

After briefly departing the district to work as the guidance director and a curriculum specialist at Waccamaw High in Pawleys Island, Swinton returned to CCSD in 2002 as an assistant principal at Wando.

“Cheryl has the experience, expertise, and skills to effectively lead the Burke and Simmons Pinckney communities,” CCSD Superintendent Gerrita Postlewait said. “We are excited to welcome her back to her first place of employment in the district nearly three decades ago. We know she will bring great opportunities to the students and families we serve in District 20."
