Cindy Bohn Coats, a Charleston County School District Board member, was elected as Region 2 Director of the South Carolina School Boards Association (SCSBA) during the association’s annual Delegate Assembly in December.
Coats was appointed this past May to serve as the region director to fill the vacated seat. Region 2 serves Charleston County.
The association’s annual business meeting, which was held during the association’s Legislative Advocacy Conference, included voting delegates from most of the state’s 81 school boards. In addition to electing association officers, delegates adopted resolutions to guide the association during the 2017 legislative session.
She has served on the Charleston County School District Board since 2010. She served as the chair of the Audit/Finance Committee for two years, as vice chair for one year, and has served as chair since 2012. She has earned Level Three of the SCSBA Boardmanship Institute.
Coats is the executive director of The Sanctuary for Sober Living, an organization dedicated to supporting addicts in recovery and their families; providing educational and prevention programs to local schools, community groups, and churches; and advocating for addiction support and treatment at the local, state and national level.
