Careteam+ administrative assistant Scott Sloan has been honored with the 2016 Pee Dee Public Health Region Outstanding Service Award for his work in Disease Intervention.

“Individuals who are referred to the program for treatment remain in our care because of the excellent service they receive from individuals like Scott," Careteam+ Executive Director and CEO Johanna Haynes said. "He is an exemplary employee who sets the standard.”

Sloan was selected for the award due to his caring attitude and desire to help those who need Careteam+ services. He was praised for his ability to provide a welcoming atmosphere to the patients and staff at Careteam+. He is the first private-sector employee to be honored with this award.

Careteam+ serves Georgetown, Horry and Williamsburg counties. It began as an organization to assist uninsured HIV patients in 1993. Careteam became Careteam+ and now accepts most major insurance while assisting the non-insured with a sliding fee.

Its focus is still on chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, heart disease and obesity as well as hepatitis and HIV. Since its humble beginnings, Careteam+ has also grown to include primary care and pediatrics, making it a complete provider of health care services.
