The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) partnered with Affordabike to refurbish 16 lost-and-found bicycles to give away over the holiday season.
CARTA noted that many public transit trips begin or end with a bike ride or long walk. CARTA wanted to help riders overcome “the first-mile/last-mile problem” and spread some holiday cheer.
The recycled bikes will help riders navigate walks of more than a quarter-mile to their stop or final destination. According to CARTA, a quarter-mile is the longest distance that most people can comfortably walk.
