To oversee the state’s new Coordinating Council for Workforce Development, Elisabeth Kovacs has been promoted to Deputy Director of Workforce Development within the South Carolina Department of Commerce.
In her new role, Kovacs will oversee daily operations for the council to meet workforce needs as well as continue management of the state’s Regional Education Centers, including a team of 12 regional advisers.
Having served with the department for over 15 years, Kovacs gained experience interacting regularly with the state Department of Employment and Workforce and the Office of the Governor. The new council is chaired by Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt, who has served since 2011.
“Workforce development continues to be a major component of South Carolina’s economic development strategy,” Hitt said. “This new position will allow us to strengthen collaboration with the many workforce partners and allies across this state.”
Kovacs earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and serves as a board member of the Boys and Girls Club of the Midlands. She has state-level authentication as a South Carolina-Certified Economic Development (SCCED) expert as well as program management experience and extensive economic development training from numerous civic and academic institutions.
