Gen. Raymond Thomas III, one of the top Special Operations commanders in the U.S., will speak to the South Carolina Corps of Cadets Greater Issues Series.
In his presentation, Thomas will discuss his leadership responsibilities and duties during his time as the 11th commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), which is based in Tampa, Florida at MacDill Air Force Base.
Thomas has also spent his time as an associate director for military affairs at the Central Intelligence Agency; deputy commanding general, JSOC; commanding general, NATO Special Operations Component Command – Afghanistan; assistant division commander, 1st Armor Division in Iraq; deputy director for Special Operations, the Joint Staff in the Pentagon; and assistant commanding general, JSOC.
Before he joined USSOCOM, Thomas was a commander of the Joint Special Operations Command in North Carolina.
Originally from Philadelphia, Thomas went to the U.S. Army War College in Pennsylvania. He went to Rhode Island to attend the Naval Academy and Staff College. After graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, Thomas was named an infantry second lieutenant in 1980.
The speech will be given Tuesday at 11 a.m. at The Citadel.
