Palmetto Health was a sponsor for the yearly “Hearts and Hands Forever Walk,” a quarter-mile memorial walk held Sunday at Riverfront Park.
The purpose of the walk is to support those who have experienced the loss of a baby, whether it happened through stillbirth, miscarriage, neonatal, ectopic pregnancy or newborn death.
Participants wore ribbons of remembrance and were asked to care for a tree that was planted 24 years ago, when the community held its first memorial walk event. The walk included a brief memorial service.
“The walk is a chance for families who have experienced perinatal loss to come together to remember their loved ones,” Rosalie Blair, a social worker at Palmetto Health Baptist, said. “Our hope is that this event will give families a place to share their stories, learn from each other and gain support through the healing process.”
