Jenkinson, Jarrett & Kellahan recently received the Solo & Small Firm award from the South Carolina Bar, honoring the firm’s community service in Kingstree after the area experienced floods in October of last year, as well as other service projects.
The award was given at the Bar’s LPM-TECH Conference on Sept. 16. The ceremony took place at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
The firm’s members include W.E. Jenkinson III, Ernest J. Jarrett, Jennifer R. Kellahan, J. Thomas Thompson, and W. Evan Reynolds.
In 2015, the community experienced serious flood damage. Members at the firm worked alongside the Kingstree United Methodist Church to create a Flood Donation Relief Center. This allowed the flood victims to gain access to desperately needed supplies.
At the time, the local hospital was closed because of the flood damage. Billy Jenkinson, who has spent decades representing the hospital, worked hard to set up a mobile emergency room. This allowed the community to access important health services.
For their work, the attorneys have been praised and recognized by their legal peers. Their volunteer assistance was a major help during the community’s time of need.
In addition, the attorneys instruct classes of students at the South Carolina Bar’s Law School for Non-Lawyers. They have also volunteered to speak at local schools and host mock trials, as well as other service projects.
