Charleston awards benefiting Folly Beach tourism

Charleston was voted the “World’s Best City” by Travel + Leisure magazine in July and the benefits of the reward are reaching Folly Beach.

The local economy is expected to experience a $4 billion surge due in part to the award. Folly Beach, which is only 15 minutes from downtown Charleston, saw a huge influx of traffic on the town’s website right after the “World’s Best City” award was announced.

Folly Beach also saw a bump in traffic after Charleston received the friendliest city award from Conde Nast Traveler’s 29th annual Reader’s Choice Awards, an award the city has had the honor of receiving multiple times in recent years. Vacation rental requests increased 15 percent over this time last year after the Conde Nast Traveler award, Director Blake Bookstaff said.

“This is a great time to discover Folly Beach,” said Bookstaff. “We love introducing new vacationers to this picture-perfect destination.”
