Leadership staff of the Columbia Fireflies minor league baseball team received the YMCA of Columbia’s annual Spirit, Mind and Body Award at the Breakfast of Champions on Aug. 4.

This award is presented to individuals or organizations who make it their mission to help better the lives of others.

The Columbia Fireflies work with the YMCA to help the youth in the Columbia area reach their full potential in life. This year, the two programs reached out to the youth through baseball programs to teach them about healthy outlets, gaining new skills, to develop a sense of teamwork and to introduce them to positive role models in the community. The Columbia Fireflies also sponsored and organized faith and family nights at Spirit Communications Park and reading programs at the YMCA.

The Columbia Fireflies’ leadership team is President John Katz, who accepted the award on behalf of the team, Brad Shank, EVP; Abby Nass, VP of Marketing and Public Relations; and Kyle Williamson, Assistant Director of Ticketing and Reading Program Manager.
