With gratitude for exemplary business and civic service, the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce honored State Senator Larry Grooms with the 2016 Glenn McConnell Elected Leader Award at its recent State Delegation Appreciation event.
The honor is given annually to one delegation member who epitomizes the leadership qualities of former Lt. Governor and Senator Glenn McConnell during his 34-year tenure as an elected public servant in South Carolina’s General Assembly. The occasion is dedicated to thanking members of the legislative delegation for their ongoing support of enhancing the entire metropolitan Charleston area.
The Chamber recognized Grooms, representing District 37-Berkeley & Charleston Counties, for his overall leadership in the business community and region, but especially during 2016. The senator, who has served since 1997, is current chairman of the Senate Transportation Committee and also sits on the Senate Finance Committee.
Grooms has been key in overseeing progress for state infrastructure improvements as well as funding. In alignment with the Metro Chamber’s legislative priorities, he has also helped to ensure funding for roadway improvements throughout South Carolina.
Additionally, event attendees celebrated the complete passing of the Chamber's Annual Legislative Agenda. The initiative included funding for the state’s infrastructure; approval for an aeronautical training center at Trident Technical College, and expanded tax exemptions for certain military retirees.
