EdVenture, a not-for-profit initiative based in Columbia and committed to sparking joyful learning in youngsters and lifelong education, recently installed a new board chair and several new officers to serve on its board of trustees.
Tapped to serve as new chair, John Dozier is the University of South Carolina’s first chief diversity officer. With an MBA and Ph.D. from DePaul University, he previously worked in the Chicago community college system.
“John Dozier combines his genuine passion for the work we do throughout the community with solid, principled leadership,” Karen Coltrane, president and CEO, said. “When John is in the room, you always know the discussion will be rich and the decisions well informed. We are so proud to have him leading our board.”
Jamie Becker will serve as the board’s vice chair for governance. An attorney with Haynesworth, Sinkler, Boyd PA, he specializes in complex litigation cases involving business and consumer finance, auto sales, real estate, trade law and intellectual property.
Named as treasurer and as vice chair for internal affairs, Kevin Lindler serves as SVP for retail banking with First Citizens Bank, having been with the institution for a decade.
Taking the reins as vice chair for external affairs, Mason Hardy of Creative Financial Strategies focuses on financial planning, wealth management and nonprofits.
New secretary Tonya Dorsey is an executive at Aflac, leading the group’s “innovation evolution” at its Columbia office.
The newly appointed team joins 10 current board members. EdVenture offers a variety of programs in an interactive space, including educational outreach and after-school programs.
