Andy Brack, a veteran businessman and publisher, has been tapped as chair by the Charleston County Public Library's board of trustees.
"I’m honored to have been selected to chair the board and excited about working with the board and the library’s professional staff to build an even better library system for the people of Charleston County,” Brack said. “Not only will we be bringing on a new director in the next few weeks, but we’re pushing forward in our $108.5 million voter-approved program to build two new library branches, replace three branches, renovate 13 existing locations and relocate support services to free up space in the Main Library.”
The board also elected Vice Chairman Steven Clem, a tax professional, and Susan Strunk, retired Illinois library director, as treasurer. Maya Hollinshead, Medical University of South Carolina's program assistant, was re-elected as secretary.
All the terms began July 1 and will expire on June 30, 2017. Brack succeeds Janet Segal, who had led the board since 2010. She will stay on the board until December.
“Janet has been the driving force in our county for modernizing our public libraries,” Brack said. “Everybody in the county should be grateful for her long hours of work and dedication."
