Maxtrix alights in Mount Pleasant with kids’ fixtures

Charleston, South Carolina-based entrepreneurs Stephen and Anne Jensen are rounding up their furniture businesses — Maxwood Furniture and Maxtrix Kids Rooms — for a complete relocation in the Charleston area and, in a company first, a retail showroom.

With a grand opening planned for this summer, the affiliated companies have moved to 816 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. The Maxtrix concept offers hardwood furniture that adapts to growing children’s needs, offering kids variety and innovation as they mature, from toddlerhood through their teens. Beds can convert, for example, as children grow older, adapting to bunk bed or loft bed configurations.

Building their business largely on customer demand, the couple launched the firm in stages, with Danish furniture professional Stephen founding parent company Maxwood Furniture in 2004 and his wife Anne coming aboard as chief marketing officer in 2014 when the Jensens moved to the Charleston area.

Now operating out of a renovated restaurant, the couple made the decision to create a permanent space for their brands following several requests from customers eager to make additional purchases. Not only will Maxtrix Kids Rooms’ flagship location serve as a hub for design-oriented events with other professionals, but will also, the owners hope, become a model for potential franchise operations across the U.S. and Canada.
