When their terms end later this year, Johnny Jeffcoat will relinquish his seat on the council of Lexington County, South Carolina, and the solicitor for the 11th circuit (Edgefield, Lexington, McCormick and Saluda counties) Donnie Myers will also step down.
As a precursor to the June 14 primary election, two candidate forums will take place at the Chapin Town Hall, 157 NW Columbia Ave., Chapin. The first will be on May 19; the second on May 31. During these forums voters will have the opportunity to meet and speak with candidates and ask questions.
During the May 19 forum, which will begin at 6:30 p.m., the four candidates for District 6 (Irmo and Chapin areas) — Eric Long Bergeson, Ron Derrick, Benjamin Stitely and Dino Teppara — will the discuss the issues they will focus on if elected. Local lawyer Lisa Smith will moderate the discussion.
The May 31 forum, which will be moderated by Becky Dickson and begin at 5:30 p.m., will see solicitor candidates Rick Hubbard, Candice Lively and Larry Wedekind share plans for the office should they be elected. This is the first solicitor election in District 11 in nearly 40 years; Myers had held the seat since 1976.
