Representatives from Operation Palmetto Employment (OPE), a military employment initiative based in South Carolina, met with prospective employers, hiring managers, veteran employment representatives and military men and women from across the state recently to educate them about the services OPE has to offer.
During the meeting, Ashby Search Group, BECU, Power Home Technologies and Sykes Enterprises were spotlighted by the organization as certified Palmetto Military Employers.
“South Carolina’s unemployment rate for veterans is 4.4 percent,” Darrell Scott, chief of staff at the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce, said. “This rate is below the national average of 4.9 percent, and below the state average of 5.5 percent.”
Lt. Col. David Gayle, who represented the South Carolina Military Department and the South Carolina National Guard at the meeting, called OPE “a tool that employers can use to access South Carolina’s military talent.”
OPE plans two regional summits in May: One on May 4 at the Spartanburg Readiness Center at USC-Upstate and another on May 26 at Verizon Solutions Center in North Charleston. Pre-registration is required and can be completed online at www.Eventbrite.com.
