Charleston, South Carolina's CFO will soon move into a different role within the city.
According to Mayor John Tecklenberg, Steve Bedard, who became the city’s first-ever CFO in May 1998, has been tapped to head the Gaillard Management Corp., a not-for-profit agency run by the city and that is responsible for the upkeep and operation of the city-owned Gaillard Center.
Bedard’s new title will be president and CEO. He has already begun to transition into his new job; that transition is expected to be completed over the next couple of months.
“The city’s financial status has steadily improved during (Bedard’s) time as CFO,” Tecklenberg said. “We are confident in a smooth transition, with reliance on both Steve and the remarkable team he’s assembled in that department.”
Bedard said he was glad to have the opportunity to lead Gaillard Corp. before his retirement.
“I can say, unequivocally, I would not leave my present position for any other professional opportunity but this one until my previously planned retirement in late 2017,” he said.
