Officials from multi-national mass media company Comcast recently announced plans to invest $21.4 million in Charleston County, South Carolina with the opening of a new customer service and technical support center.
The new center, which will be built at 3450 Ingleside Blvd. in North Charleston’s Ingleside Plantation development on I-26, will initially create more than 550 new jobs — and eventually 800 — for employees who will assist Comcast customers with their X1 entertainment operating systems as well as high-speed internet and digital telephone services. The center will measure 80,000 square feet and is expected to open in the second quarter of this year.
“By bringing more than 550 new jobs to North Charleston, Comcast continues to support the region’s robust economic development while making great strides to improve the customer experience,” Doug Guthrie, Comcast’s regional SVP, said. “The service and technical support center opening marks an exciting new chapter in our positive and long-standing partnership with the Charleston community.”
Comcast already has a presence in North Charleston; the company’s Xfinity Customer Center began operations in January 2015.
“Congratulations to Comcast as they launch this exciting new facility in North Charleston,” Charleston County Council chair Elliott Summey said. “The quality of workforce is ultimately the greatest test of a community’s economic success and viability.”
