Attorney Jacqueline Pavlicek from Callison Tigue in Columbia, South Carolina recently earned the CIPP/US designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) after she passed a comprehensive exam about data and privacy protection practices and laws in the U.S.
This designation is the top professional designation that the information privacy sector provides. Experts in information technology, security, and privacy typically receive this designation, not attorneys.
Established in 2000, IAPP is a non-profit organization that has grown into the biggest information privacy organization around the globe. The organization aims to develop systems and programs geared toward privacy professionals, allowing them exchange their best practices and identify trends.
Pavlicek needed to show that she had knowledge of federal as well as state data-protection laws, in addition to marketing practice regulations. These include the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), HIPAA, the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA), as well as the federal regulations that resolve marketing limitations and information sharing.
The exam for the designation included employment-related privacy laws. It also covered the best practices for employee testing, background screening, workplace monitoring, discipline, and employee investigation.
Thanks to her new designation, Pavlicek will be able to provide comprehensive privacy as well as data protection input to her clients. She can help organizations and individuals that have privacy compliance and concern problems. In addition, she can help clients with cybersecurity issues, privacy audits, and more.
