A new line of sport fishing boats will be manufactured at a new plant in Newberry County, South Carolina.
Officials for Falcon Boats recently announced plans for the company to set up operations in an existing building at 750 Wilson Rd. in Newberry. The $1.5 million investment will lead to the creation of 35 jobs over the next five years.
“It’s great to see that the boat manufacturing industry is alive and well in Newberry County,” Newberry County Council chair Henry Livingston III said. “Since we have a long history of boat building in our community, we have the right people with the right skills to make Falcon Boats successful. We wish them well and we’ll do whatever we can to help the company and its people prosper.”
The first model in the new line, dubbed the F-215, is already being manufactured. The 21-foot boat is designed to move through the water quickly and be stable even in rough waters. It has an extra-wide beam and a large casting deck.
Falcon Boats was founded in Irmo, South Carolina as Marine Pro, a company that focused on boat repair and modification. As the business developed, president Stephen Waller, along with two partners, decided to branch out and create a line of bass fishing boats.
“It’s an awesome feeling to be building boats in Newberry again,” Waller said. “We’re starting out small, and plan to grow as business allows, but we have high hopes of producing quality and affordable boats for many years to come.”
