A Volvo manufacturing facility is planned in Columbia, South Carolina, and in an effort to keep the public and interested parties informed, officials from the South Carolina Department of Commerce, Berkeley County and Trident Technical College will host a construction subcontractor outreach event.
The gathering will take place at Trident Technical College's Building 920, 7000 Rivers Ave., North Charleston on March 30 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
“South Carolina is leading the pack in advanced manufacturing, and we’re excited to celebrate the progress of this new facility," South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt said. "As the proud home of Volvo Cars’ first American plant, we look forward to watching their Berkeley County operations thrive, contributing to the success of the company’s ventures in the U.S. and around the world."
Attendees will get information about current and upcoming bid packages as well as instructions for contractor pre-qualification forms. Members of the construction management team from Yates Construction and paint shop construction management company Gray Construction will also be on hand to answer questions.
The Volvo project is a $500-million investment and will produce as many as 100,000 cars annually and will be up and running by the end of 2018. It is expected to create up to 2,000 new jobs over the next 10 years.
