Bringing with him nearly three decades of experience, public finance tax attorney Tom Havener has joined Columbia, South Carolina-based law firm Pope Flynn.
“I am very enthusiastic about joining Pope Flynn’s public finance practice with its wonderful group of attorneys,” Havener said. “My wife and I are looking forward to enjoying all the opportunities that South Carolina has to offer.”
Havener earned his law degree from Case Western Reserve University. He also holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from Ohio State University.
Havener's extensive work history began with a stint in the Tax Counsel's office at the Standard Oil Co. He went on to become an equity partner in the Taxation Department of global law firm Squire Sanders & Dempsey (now Squire Patton Boggs). He has served as counsel for large orporations such as The Standard Oil Co./BP America, Exxon, The Cleveland Clinic Foundation as well as the states of Ohio, Connecticut, New York, Florida, Arizona, and California, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia.
Havener was honored by The Best Lawyers in America as a Lawyer of the Year in 2015.
