Travel + Leisure magazine's "The Best Cities in North America" survey results are out, and the Holy City is sitting pretty at the top position.
"Travel + Leisure readers voted on their favorite airports, cruise lines, islands, and hotels—and also ranked the world's greatest cities for features such as arts, shopping, dining, and romantic ambience," writes Katrina Brown Hunt in the most recent issue of Travel + Leisure.
Charleston, SC "won the survey by balancing sophisticated tastes with small-town charm," writes Brown Hunt.
According to the survey, Charleston also has the survey's top four "small-city hotels" in the country. The Wentworth Mansion ranked number one in this category, followed by the French Quarter Inn, Planter's Inn, and The Vendue.
"Not only did these hospitable South Carolinians rank highly for their well-crafted local cuisine, but they also landed near the top of the survey for likeability," writes Brown Hunt.
New Orleans, LA ranked number two in the survey, followed by Savannah, GA.
Charleston ranked number two in the magazine's survey of top cities in the world, narrowly edged out by Kyoto, Japan for the top spot.
