Charleston's Mellow Mushroom marks 15 years in business

January marked a significant mileston for downtown Charleston, South Carolina eatery the Mellow Mushroom — 15 years in business.

The Charleston Mellow Mushroom at 309 King St. is owned by Michael Shemtov, Johnny Hudgins and Joshua Broome. Locations were eventually opened in Avondale and Summerville; a fourth Mellow Mushroom location is under construction now in North Charleston across from the Tanger Outlets.

The Mellow Mushroom franchise was launched in Atlanta, Georgia in 1974.

The Mellow Mushroom's specialties are gournmet pizza and craft beers. Tomorrow, Feb. 13, the restautant will host "2001: A Pizza Odyssey" from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. The celebration is open to the public and will also feature music by a deejay, a laser light show, ice luge and late-night food and drink specials.

Guests can also participate in a costume contest to win a $100 grand prize.
