Every year since 1969, the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing golf tournament — the only Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) Tour event in South Carolina — has brought thousands of people to Hilton Head, South Carolina and raised a significant amount of money for charity.
April 11-17 are the dates for the 48th annual tournament, which is sponsored by the Heritage Classic Foundation. Joining them as a sponsor is Apex Broadcasting of Charleston, South Carolina, which has inked a three-year deal to become the tournament's official radio station.
“Apex wants to grow our relationship with the RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing because the tournament makes our community a better place,” Apex general manager Mike Buxser said. “The tournament is an economic driver and distributes funding to the charities who help improve the lives of local residents. It is the type of event we want to be associated with.”
As part of the agreement, Apex, which operates radio stations 104.9 The Surf/WLHH, SC 103/WVSC 103.1 and easy fm 106.5, will produce original radio content about the tournament, which will be aired throughout the year. Also planned are weekly segments about the tournament as well as "Lowcountry Links," a golf-themed radio show.
“Apex Broadcasting has many great ideas on how to maximize their partnership,” RBC Heritage Tournament director Steve Wilmot said. “Our fans will be able to tune into Apex radio stations to get the latest news and also learn more about the RBC Heritage’s 48-year history.”
Since the tournament, which takes place over the Harbour Town Golf Links, began operating in 1987 as a 501 (c)(3) organization, it has raised nearly $32 million for hundreds of charity organizations. It is also a boon for the Palmetto State's economy — a 2015 Clemson University study showed the yearly economic impact of the tournament is about $96 million.
Tickets for the tournament are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 843-671-2448 or online at www.rbcheritage.com.
