Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) President David J. Cole will be the guest speaker Thursday, Jan. 7 at a King Street Marketing Group business networking event at Halls Chophouse, part of Halls' Small Business Lunch program.
Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $29 per person (plus tax and processing fee) and include a three-course lunch at noon prepared by Halls' executive chef Matthew Niessner.
MUSC is the Palmetto State's largest hospital and one of the state's leading employers, with 13,000 clinicians, faculty and staff. The university currently educates 3,000 students in its six medical colleges.
Cole will discuss a campaign he is heading to raise $350 million in funding for MUSC's new Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Women’s Pavilion, which will replace the exisiting 28-year-old Children's Hospital on the MUSC campus. Ground is expected to be broken on the project sometime in 2016, and the pavilion's anticipated opening date is 2019. He will also speak on the relationships between a community's major institutions and small businesses.
“We have a bold new vision for children’s health,” said Cole. “We still have work to do but this facility will become a landmark for world-class children’s health care and will impact every family in our state. We are tremendously grateful and excited.”
