As the Chicora Life Center in North Charleston, South Carolina approaches completion, some of the first residents to lease space in this renovated former Naval hospital are preparing to open, including Fetter Health Care Network Inc.
“Fetter chose the Chicora Life Center because we were sold on the concept of a social services hub in the heart of North Charleston,” which has recently become revitalized and is on the bus line, which allows for full accessibility to all patients, Fetter Health Care Network Interim CEO Ruth Jordan told Palmetto Business Daily.
Jordan said Fetter purchased 10,000 square feet of the nearly 400,000 square-foot location and invested quite a bit of money into a “21st-century medical facility to provide access and quality in a patient-friendly environment.”
“Fetter also has a pediatric site less than two miles from Chicora, which we plan on moving into the facility soon. With WIC [Women Infants and Children program] and other family services in the same facility,” it is ideal, Jordan said.
Jordan added that “as the oldest and largest community health care center in the country,” Fetter wants to provide pediatric, adult, and geriatric care along with other community services in the same location.
The Chicora Life Center “is a great place for our health-care services.” Jordan said.
Fetter Health Care is a part of a much larger state and national network of federally qualified health centers, which means it receives payment through private insurance and Medicare/Medicaid patients. It is also equally committed to providing comprehensive services for all underserved populations, uninsured and underinsured alike, utilizing an affordable sliding scale fee.
The Chicora Life Center, located at 3600 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston, will enable agencies to serve clients with a variety of needs under the same roof, eliminating a lot of travel from place to place.
