As Inc.com just released its annual World's Coolest Offices list, members of the Charleston South Carolina Regional Development Alliance (CRDA) looked around the Charleston area to develop their own list.
The CRDA webiste said alliance officials were moved to "highlight some of Charleston’s great creative spaces, particularly from our fast-growing tech and creative economy sector."
The alliance named graphic and web design company Fuzzco, web-based software firm BoomTown, non-profit online workspace provider Local Works, real estate company Greystar and SIB Development & Consulting to the list.
Fuzzco's offices were designed by architect David Thompson. It carries a minimalist design with unpainted plywood walls, pegboard ceilings and rotary phones and is accented with taxidermy pieces and a live beehive in a glass case.
BoomTown is situated in a re-purposed grocery store in Charleston's downtown area. It features lounge spaces, indoor and outdoor showers for employees as well as a dog park, patio and bar with an ever-changing array of on-tap beers.
Local Works is an arm of non-profit Lowcountry Local First. It serves as a meeting place for fledgling business owners so they can share ideas with other entrepreneurs. The office's decor and furnishings have been crafted from recycled glass and wood.
Greystar's Charleston headquarters recently underwent a re-design and is now distinctly modern, with floor-to-ceiling partitions made of steel and glass and carpeted steps throughout.
SIB Development & Consulting is housed in a renovated car dealership's garage. It features charging stations for electric cars and an office dog park. Its employees enjoy lunches catred by chefs from throughout the Charleston area.
