With the expansion of its Richland County location, General Information Services (GIS), Inc., is making a $2.7 million investment in Columbia, South Carolina.
The expansion will be housed in a leased 18,000-square-foot office building at 1001 Pinnacle Point Drive.
“The management and employees of GIS are very excited about our new building location on the east side of Columbia," General Information Services CEO Raymond Conrad said. "Over the past 20 years, we have been growing our business and increasing the number of employees located at our Chapin (South Carolina) headquarters. Our continued growth allowed us to expand to the new location at Pinnacle Point."
Hundreds of jobs will be created as a result of the expansion.
"We expect to hire an excess of 200 people at that location over the next year," Conrad said. "This location will also allow us to hire and employ professionals living in the northeast area around Interstate 20 and Interstate 77."
When it was launched in 1966, GIS provided background screening services. The company is now one of the county's largest, fastest-growing technology firms.
“This announcement from GIS is more good news for Richland County and Columbia," Torrey Rush, Richland County' council chair, said. "We are glad to assist in the expansion of this fast-growing company and to continue to diversify our local economy.”
