Thompson E. Penney, chairman, president and CEO of Charleston, South Carolina-based design firm LS3P, was recently selected by the Design Futures Council as an honorary senior fellow.
Penney worked at LS3P when he was in high school. He went on to earn a masters degree in architecture from Clemson University, and came back to the company after graduation. In 1982, he was named president of LS3P.
He also holds a fellowship from the American Institute of Architects, which he earned in 1990. He was the 79th national president of the American Institute of Architects in 2004.
"The leadership role of design is of critical importance toward the creation of a healthier and happier planet," Design Futures Council co-founder and chairman James P. Cramer said. "The new senior fellows of the Deign Futures Council have been selected for the tremendous impact they have had on our world. Each is noteworthy for providing new hope and direction.”
