Toray signs agreement with Boeing, plans launch of production facilities in Spartanburg County

Toray Industries Inc. recently entered into long-term agreement with The Boeing Co., under the terms of which Toray will supply carbon fiber TORAYCA® prepreg for Boeing's new Boeing 777X aircraft.

This agreement is an extension to an existing agreement signed in November 2005 for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The total value of the original contract and the extension is more than $11 billion.

Carbon fiber TORAYCA® is produced in a new Spartanburg County, South Carolina facility. It is Columbia, South Carolina-based Toray’s first integrated production line for yarn (precursor), carbon fiber TORAYCA® and TORAYCA® prepreg in the U.S.

Toray will commence production of yarn (precursor) in phases in May 2017 and is set to begin supplying TORAYCA® prepreg to Boeing in 2019.

The integrated production line in Spartanburg County is being constructed in response to growing demand from Boeing, which will increase its production of 787 aircraft to 14 per month as well as the 777X program.

The Spartanburg County facility will be expanded in phases.
